Village at Heritage Point resident Isolene Michael turns 100 years old

By Ann Keaton  |  3/29/2016

Isolene Michael, a resident at The Village at Heritage Point, will be celebrating her 100th birthday on Wednesday, March 30.

Part of her secret to a long life is to stay active. She participates in a Tai Chi class every Tuesday and Thursday at The Village. While she can’t do all of the moves, she benefits from the moves she can do. It makes her feel better and helps with her balance and memory. Tai Chi is a traditional form of Chinese exercise.

Isolene has been a resident at The Village at Heritage Point since 2006.

During her lifetime, Isolene and her late husband Edward raised two sons, one of whom has passed away. She has four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her youngest grandson will be 20 years old on her birthday.

Isolene loved to bake, especially pies and pecan rolls. “It was a pleasure to cook for my family,” she said. About 20 of her family members will be visiting The Village at Heritage Point to help celebrate her birthday.

She held many jobs during her lifetime, including working in the assessor’s office at the New Martinsville Courthouse. She also worked as a secretary for many years for the New Martinsville First Methodist Church. Those who knew her during those days said she was a very hard worker.
